Biko Brace - Walking Aid for Ataxia & Degenerative Myelopathy

The Biko Brace is a specialist walking aid developed by Ortocanis, designed to support dogs affected by ataxia, degenerative myelopathy, IVDD, or other conditions that cause hind limb weakness and poor coordination. Rather than simply supporting body weight, the Biko works as a gait correction device — using elastic straps to gently propel the hindlimb forward in sync with your dog's natural stride, reducing paw dragging and knuckling with every step.

1. Ensure your dog is fitted with a well-fitting chest harness before attaching the Biko Brace. The harness is not included and must be purchased separately.
2. Measure your dog carefully using the Ortocanis sizing guide and select the correct brace size before use.
3. Attach the elastic straps of the Biko Brace to the chest harness and around the hindlimbs as directed in the fitting instructions provided with the product.
4. Check that all straps are secure but not overly tight — you should be able to fit two fingers beneath each strap.
5. Begin with short, supervised walks of 10 to 15 minutes, allowing your dog time to adjust to the sensation of the brace.
6. Gradually increase session length as your dog builds confidence and strength, ideally under guidance from a veterinary physiotherapist.
7. Always supervise your dog while the brace is in use. Remove the brace after each session and check the skin beneath the straps for any signs of rubbing or irritation.
8. Do not leave the brace on an unsupervised or resting dog.
