Padded compression for both elbows in one piece, anchored across the back — for bilateral dysplasia, arthritis or hygromas.

With your dog standing, lay the anchor section across the back behind the shoulder blades.
Bring each padded section down over an elbow point and check both are centred.
Fasten the upper straps first, then the lower, working evenly side to side.
Snug, not tight. You should get two fingers under any strap.
If you're treating hygromas, pair the brace with softer bedding — the hard floor is what caused them.
Watch the first few minutes of walking. Both sides should stay level rather than one riding up.

A brace supports a joint. It doesn't fix what's causing the problem, so keep your vet in the loop — particularly if your dog is in pain, an elbow is hot or swollen, or things are getting worse rather than better.

Build up wearing time gradually. Start with short sessions and check the skin under both pads every time you take it off.
A hygroma that is hot, painful or leaking needs veterinary attention rather than padding — it may be infected.
Stop and reassess if you find rubbing, hair loss or broken skin.
Take the brace off overnight unless your vet has told you otherwise.
For dogs under two years old, use in balanced intervals so growth isn't affected.

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap and air dry away from direct heat. Don't tumble dry, and don't put it on a radiator — heat distorts the shaping and the velcro.

Frequently asked questions

The Soft Plus, every time, if both elbows need support. The single Soft anchors across to the opposite front leg — two of them would both be reaching for the same space across the chest and pulling against each other. The Soft Plus anchors over the back instead and is designed to work as one piece.

Probably not — the single Balto Soft is less bulky and cheaper. That said, elbow dysplasia is usually bilateral even when only one side is obviously sore, and hygromas tend to follow on the second elbow because the cause is how your dog lies down. Worth checking both sides properly before deciding.

Most do, and dogs used to wearing a harness barely notice. Build up over a week rather than starting with a full day, and put it on before something your dog enjoys — a walk, a meal — so it gets associated with good things rather than being fussed over.

Balto's length bands overlap between sizes, so weight is the tie-breaker — give the size finder both and it'll sort it out. If you're still between two, size up: the straps take in slack, but they can't add length.
