Two of the three aluminium splints attach with velcro and can be repositioned. As the fracture heals and the support needed changes, the brace changes with it.

Your vet should tell you where the splints need to sit and how long the brace stays on. Fitting it is straightforward; deciding the support pattern for a healing fracture is not.

With your dog standing, wrap the brace around the front leg so it spans from just below the elbow to the wrist.
Position the two movable splints where the support is needed, then press the velcro down firmly.
Fasten the upper strap first, then the lower.
Snug, not tight. You should get two fingers under any strap.
Check the paw below the brace regularly for swelling, coolness or colour change.

This is a fracture brace and should be used under veterinary direction. Whether a fracture can be managed with bracing rather than surgery or casting depends on the break, the bone and the dog.

Follow your vet's instructions on wearing time — a healing fracture is not a build-it-up-gradually situation.
Check the skin and the paw below the brace every time it comes off.
Stop and call your vet if you find rubbing, swelling, broken skin, or if your dog's comfort suddenly changes.
Never leave a braced dog unsupervised on a lead or in a crate.
For dogs under two years old, use in balanced intervals so growth isn't affected.

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap and air dry away from direct heat. Don't tumble dry, and don't put it on a radiator — heat distorts the shaping and the velcro.

Sometimes — Balto design it as an alternative to splinting and casting, and it's also widely used for continued stability once a cast comes off. But whether a particular fracture is suitable for bracing depends on the break, the bone and the dog. That's a decision for your vet, and one worth asking them directly rather than deciding from a website.

Severity. The Splint handles mild to moderate carpal laxity and instability. The Bone is a fracture brace and gives far more rigid support — it's what Balto specify for severe front-leg hyperextension or hyperflexion, and for anything involving a break.

Ask your vet. The two movable splints exist so support can be placed exactly where the injury needs it, and that position may need to change as healing progresses. The third splint is fixed to the back of the brace and stays put.

With your dog standing, measure down the front leg from about 2.5cm below the elbow to the wrist. That length is what Balto size on, because the brace has to span the injury without jamming into the elbow above or the paw below. Weight is only a cross-check.
